The SAIMechE Technology Olympiad is a national program aimed to
- stimulate interest in technology
- emphasise the importance of maths and science
- encourage further education in the field of engineering
HOW IT IS PACKAGED:
The challenge is set out each year to
- be relevant to current affairs
- be wide enough to allow creativity in generating concepts
- be specific enough so that learners understand what is required
- have a fun element that appeals to learners from all communities
- have a final result that is adjudicated as objectively as possible

The BLOODHOUND Super Sonic Car aims to be the world’s first 1000 mph (1600 kph) Car. Powered by a state-of the-art jet engine and a huge hybrid rocket motor, BLOODHOUND SSC will develop over 130 000 horsepower and cover 16 kilometres in 100 seconds from a standing start.Wing Commander Andy Green, BLOODHOUND SSC’s driver, holds the current World Land Speed Record (1220 kph).
